Elementary

Fifth Ave Alternative Elementary School

A school celebrating diversity is the Fifth Avenue Alternative Elementary School, focusing less on textbooks and more on teaching by using the Literacy Collaborative approach. With a range of teachers from Peru, Somalia, Taiwan, the Ivory Coast, and a Japanese-American teacher, Fifth Avenue wants their students to interact with cultures throughout the world.

Weinland Park Elementary

Computer based learning is what Weinland Park is all about. They use computer programs to help students learn their core curriculum. With a student to teacher ratio of 18 to 1, students are given more individual attention by their instructors. Attention that even goes beyond the classroom, for the staff makes home visits to all students’ homes. The Ohio Corps Girls in Technology program is also available. This program sends female volunteers from The Ohio State University into Weinland to educate young girls about technology.

Middle

Indianola Middle School

Driven by the Columbus school system’s focus of training students to pass all state proficiency tests, and encouraging students to take advantage of post-secondary education, Indianola middle school pushes for students to go to college after completion of high school. Students who attend this school are sent to Linden-McKinley high school, which ensures college financial assistance.

High

Whetstone High School

Placing a huge focus on sending not just students to college, but volunteers and leaders - Whetstone wantsstudents to become independent but yet still work with groups, so that each student can be culturally diverse. Their volunteering goes beyond their community. They try to encourage students to help throughout the world. There is a huge college prep emphasis but also an emphasis on creating future volunteers.

The Graham School

A school that’s open to all Ohio Students, especially ones living in the Columbus Public School District. It supplies students with a small school setting and focuses on experiential education. They want students to learn through real world experiences and their academics - allowing students to take responsibility for their own actions, while training them for a college career.
